2017

Please join us for a weekend of Feldenkrais Dharma with Jamie van Dam.
Jamie has kindly accepted a request to teach again in Toronto on the weekend of January 20th. He will hold group sessions and has offered to give individual sessions for those who would like to do that.

Jamie describes the practice in the following words:
Feldenkrais Dharma is a process of self-discovery done in a
supportive environment using a combination of guided meditations, movements and awareness questions within a context that treats the mind and body as a whole.
Each guided sequence engages you in various ways from very small eye movements to larger breathing movements, facilitating deep relaxation, release and full body-mind experiencing.
Working with movement patterns that enable a deepening of our innate ability for exploration and discovery, you can open further to the freeing of inherited intentions and superfluous actions rooted
in habitual patterns of body, speech and mind.
By developing a refined attention to your body-mind through movement you can gain the confidence to solve problems, resolve pain and deepen your ability to stay tuned into arisings, whether they are unpleasant or pleasant.

Schedule:
Friday January 20: group class at 7:30
Saturday January 21: group class at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. with individual sessions offered in the afternoon
Sunday January 22: group class at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm
Monday January 23: individual sessions

Teachings are given freely and a Dana bowl will be set out for Jamie and one for contributions to a space if one needs to be rented.
Please kindly let Patricia (patricia.steckley [at sign] utoronto.ca) know if you are able to attend that weekend so that arrangements can be made for a venue of appropriate size. Also indicate if you think you might want to have an individual session with Jamie.
Looking forward to sharing in this wonderful practice with everyone!

Using our own profound capacity to “remap” or “un-map” the brain, we can find freeways to deep abiding calm and clarity.

Date: Saturday June 5th
Time: 10 am to 4 pm with a potluck lunch
Location: 2665 Cedar Hill Road
Cost: by Donation

The desire to have more concentration, loving kindness and compassion is fundamental to meditation. Yet, even with these desires, it can still be very challenging for some people to meditate! The experience of having a busy mind, or the challenge of soreness and strain in your body can be some of the reasons why we choose not to meditate. Learning how important it is to first prepare for meditation through settling and relaxing your physical body as well as stating an intention for that which you wish to unfold is necessary.

In this workshop you will explore Feldenkrais movements and breath meditation, developing the connections between your belly, breath and eyes. We will take time throughout the day to integrate these movements and meditation with the four classic meditation postures.

please bring a cushion, blanket & wear loose clothing for movement and meditation

Have you ever found yourself clenching or grinding your teeth, lip or cheek biting, or noticed that your jaw is slightly to one side? How about clicking, popping, grating sounds when opening or closing your mouth? Do you experience facial pain or dullness, earaches, headaches, pain or tenderness of the jaw?

Sometimes more effort is used than what is needed in a given activity — leading to chronic soreness and pain.

Feldenkrais movement lessons bring attention to how you do what you are doing and help you uncover habits that may have produced or enhanced any of the above symptoms.

Come join these classes for movement lessons focused on identifying jaw, eyes and shoulder habits to release soreness and pain and to bring about more awareness in your life.

have clearly documented that the human nervous system is capable

Let’s practically explore the interconnections between meditation,

To a great degree, we can build and shape what we want, as long
as the interest and determined attention is sustained.” Lama Mark
